Scottish Labour is lifting children and pensioners from poverty, helping people back to work, tackling inequality, regenerating communities, building first class public services and improving the quality of people’s lives by protecting the environment.
Edinburgh’s public transport system has been transformed including 3 new railway stations, continued investment in Lothian buses which has resulted in an improved quality and frequency of services regarded as amongst the best in the UK. We’ve built new park and rides around the city, including a £1million investment at Hermiston Park & Ride creating 470 new car park spces and bus priority schemes cutting journey times to the city centre and we’ve invested in cycle routes right across the city. Labour will invest £1 billion a year in transport with 70 per cent of our investment in transport directed towards public transport.
Scottish Labour is committed to developing a tram system for Edinburgh to further improve the public transport network in the city. Not only that, we’re committed to ensuring tram fares are in line with bus fares and that the National Travel Concessionary scheme for over 60s includes using the trams.
