Fuel Bills

For every 5% increase in energy bills, 30,000 Scots are dragged into fuel poverty. That’s why Scottish Labour is committed to not only helping families, but landlords and home owners increase the energy efficiency of their homes.

Cutting down the amount of energy a house needs to heat it is one long term goal. But Labour understands that there are thousands of Scots who need more immediate help with their fuel bills.

That’s why Labour:

  • is installing free central heating in the homes of everyone over the age of 60
  • has introduced the £200 winter fuel allowance
  • has cut VAT of fuel down to 5% (the lowest level possible due to European Regulations).

Scottish Labour is committed to improving insulation and building standards of all new homes and businesses. We will incorporate micro-renewables into new housing, schools and other public buildings in Scotland as standard, and work with housing developers to build affordable and sustainable houses, that combine good design, high insulation and low energy use.

Scottish Labour is committed to ending fuel poverty by 2016.
